The power of social media posts cannot be denied. a million likes, views, or shares later, and people are suddenly building fan bases, or raising tens of thousands of dollars, or finally reconnecting with a long-lost friend. Social media, for all its problems, can still be an incredibly powerful tool.
Most of us will never have a life-changing viral post, but social media apps allow users to make small changes for important causes. From a full Facebook fundraising platform to Instagram donation stickers, your social media profiles can be regularly used as small donation hubs for nonprofits and charities. And, in a small way, maybe it would help ease the complicated relationship we have with social media in general. Here’s how everything works in each app.
While the app recently removed its fundraising tool, which allows users to raise funds directly for personal causes or small businesses (like its version of GoFundMe), users still have many options for fundraising for outside organizations. To support a certified nonprofit or charity, users can post fundraisers to their Instagram story, use the Instagram donation sticker, or host an Instagram Live charity event.

Instagram users can use posts and profile bios to create 30-day fundraisers for their favorite charities. Simply post as you normally would by selecting the “merge icon” on the Instagram homepage or on your profile page. Under the new post settings, just below the location tag, select “Add Fundraiser” and select your organization.
The post will link to the donation site and a fundraising notification will be added to your profile story. The link will remain active for 30 days; 100% of donations go directly to the organization.
First, create a story on your personal profile by clicking the “add” icon. Take a photo or upload something relevant to your case that might be helpful. Before uploading, add a sticker by clicking the square smiley icon in the top right corner of the draft page.
From there, just click on the “Donate” sticker and browse or search for nonprofits and charities that accept donations on Instagram. Choose your favorite.

Founded in 2011 in Taylor, Missouri, Down Country is a 100% volunteer organization. Because there are no labor costs, they are able to use all the funds they raise to carry out their work in the Tri-State area.
Down County was founded on three philosophies: Every child is a gift. Every child can learn. Every child learns differently. From their brochure. “Down Country uses Down syndrome to provide a global perspective on disability awareness. It is NOT just an organization for people with Down syndrome, but for the ENTIRE Tri-State community learning outside the field. Down Country serves as an umbrella for educational and special information sharing that brings together a diverse dynamic/talented community in the three states (MO, IL, IA) that comprise the Tri-State area.”
