Are you ready to create a step-by-step meal plan? These steps will work if you are planning one or more meals! Let’s do it together.

Day Clean Eating Meal Plan

Because our schedules can change every week, it’s important to look ahead to the week ahead and see what you already have planned. Do you have work lunches, dinner dates, or happy hours?

Maybe you don’t have plans yet, but are you the kind of person who randomly meets people at night? If yes, look forward to it! If you know you’ll eat out a few times after work, don’t plan too many dinners at home.

Or maybe you’re not social, but have fun during the week. It is very important not to plan every meal. Leave some dishes open so you can be spontaneous or avoid over-planning if something comes up.

I recommend planning meals only on Monday-Friday when we are busy with work or school. Better to keep the weekends open!

Healthy Meal Plans For Weight Loss And Nutrition

The goal here is to calculate the exact number of meals you need for the week ahead. Without this information, you won’t know how many servings you’ll need or how much food to buy.

Although you can avoid getting recipes for your meal plan, let’s save some money, right? This step is especially important if you are meal planning on a budget.

Shop your pantry and freezer first to use what you already have. That way, you’ll spend less on food and save money on your next grocery trip. If you want to start building your freezer and don’t know where to start, check out our essential freezer meal prep tips!

If you have lots of canned beans, check out recipes that use them. If you have a lot of pasta, guess what? Pasta dishes are always perfect for the work week. Found a frozen ground turkey in the back of your freezer? It is an excellent protein to use in all types of meals.

This part of the meal planning process is really fun, but also time consuming. It’s easy to fall down the Pinterest rabbit hole and before you know it, you’ve spent 3 hours looking at decorative fruit slices.

Which method to choose depends on your lifestyle. I love meal prep, but even if you’re not into meal prep, you can totally make meals! Or, you can combine meal prep (like making breakfast) with making one meal for dinner and having leftovers for lunch.

You should choose large batches of food that will keep in the fridge for a few days or freeze well.

Stews, chili, pasta dishes, curries, sheet pan dishes, stir-fries, burrito bowls, enchiladas, and casseroles are great dishes to base/prepare. You can’t go wrong with these types of foods! Alternatively, salads, wraps and reheated meals can also work, although of course, they require a little more attention and care in the fridge.

Plan meals you can make in 30 minutes or less on weeknights, or throw them in the slow cooker in the morning and enjoy after work.

Stuck trying to come up with good food ideas? My favorite way to come up with meal ideas is to take inspiration from takeout. What do you typically find at your local pick-up/delivery location? I can guarantee that there is a free, easy-to-read recipe online.

Don’t: Choose foods based on how “healthy” they are, because honestly, if you cook at home, it’s healthier than what you get at a casual takeout or restaurant. It’s hard to look forward to bland, boring “healthy” food.

It’s very simple – just write down the food you plan to eat on the day/time you want to eat it!

An important reminder: You don’t have to stick to your meal plan like glue. A tuned diet is less about making sure you choose enough food and enough variety for you, and less about deciding what the right foods are and when. Read more about making sure you’re choosing the right amount of food – not too much where you have too many leftovers, not too little where you’re scrambling to evaluate the food.

A Three Week Meal Plan

In our free meal planning template, we have a section for you to write it down. But if you use the WWL program, grocery lists are automatically generated for you!

I keep my meal plan and grocery list in Google Sheets because I can work on it on my laptop and it automatically syncs with my phone. That way, I’ll never forget my shopping list (unless I leave the house without my phone – highly unlikely).

To create your shopping list, look at the ingredients in your chosen recipe for the week and write them down.
