Personal Essay Example
As a small child, I follow in the footsteps of others; I never make my goals and leave my mark on the world. I never believed in the old saying, “You can go anywhere as long as you set your mind to it.” Believing this, I just fell into life without trying. Looking back now, I know that if I put every moment of my mind, body and soul into the work I was starting, I would have gone far in life.
Which Of The Following Is An Example Of A Personal Essay?
Being the youngest of four girls, I always looked up to my sisters and wanted to follow their every move. I was always told I couldn’t do ‘this’ or ‘that’; This is impossible. Eventually, as time went by, I began to trust them more. That said, I’ve only done the bare minimum to get by in life. For example, I did very well in school, but I never thought twice about improving my experience and getting involved in extracurricular activities; I lacked motivation and belief in success. Instead, I go home and focus on other forms of entertainment, such as watching TV or playing sports. As I got older, I became more independent. He does most of the work alone, away from his family. Although I began to regain my motivation, I still lacked the confidence to strive for better and greater goals.
After I graduated high school, in May 2010, I started working at a chain called What Witch Superior Sandwiches in Cummings, Georgia. I knew I wanted to go to college and major in what I wanted, but I never thought I could afford it, so I put it on the back burner and started pursuing another goal. My next goal will not be easy. I wanted to buy a car. I learned from watching my older sister struggle with car after car that I wanted to be able to pay off my car in full the day I bought it. I knew it would save a lot, but I knew it would bring me one step closer to independence. This thought haunted me every day.
My chance finally came after endless eight hour days, sometimes 10 hour shifts, for five months. I woke up early this morning and knew what I wanted to accomplish that day. 23.12.2010 was a cold day. My mother and I were in her car, my card in hand. I was nervous but excited. We are going to visit my uncle so he can do a final inspection of the car before making the big purchase. After visiting Kaka, we had to make a final stop; Bank. I withdrew the money needed to buy my new car and we were finally on our way. We chatted, listened to music, but it took twenty-five minutes to reach our destination. Three of us went into the front office to consult with the salesperson. After explaining that he wanted to buy the Chevy Cavalier parked out front, he proceeded to pull out some paperwork. After all this was done, I went out for one last look at my new car, before paying. Once I was done, I looked at my mom to let me know it was time. I fearfully counted the money for the gentleman; A hundred, two hundred… a thousand and so on until I reached my limit. He thanked me and gave me two sets of keys. I can’t wait to drive my new car. With a big smile I excitedly opened the door and got behind the wheel. He put the key in the ignition and turned it slowly, starting with a soft sound. Nothing made me happier than knowing I did it all myself. This car was all mine; In my name only, insured by me and 100% paid for by me.
Looking back now, I know that it doesn’t matter what others tell me I can or can’t do, it just depends on whether or not I believe in myself. After buying my car I learned that I can do what I want in life; I need motivation and courage to pursue it. Although I still struggle with self-confidence, I remind myself that the goals I can set for myself are limitless if I push myself harder and harder each day. All I have to do to accomplish these goals is to believe in my heart that I will get there and not let anyone take that away from me.

I am privileged. Deeply, obviously privileged, because I was loved from the beginning. And not only love, I was also supported.
Both my parents were born in very conservative families in southern India. My grandparents, aunts, uncles, second cousins, and even my neighbor’s dog were all very religious, traditional, sexist, and completely clichéd. Now, science may state that parents pass on most of their traits to their children, but my parents are living proof that all children inherit their parents’ traits. I mean, my parents are not like my grandparents. In fact, they are the exact opposite.
After my parents and I moved from India to the United States of America, I found it very difficult to adapt to the new environment. Even after I started school, I always felt strange which affected my education after a while. I started to hate learning and going to school. I had to admit to my parents more times than I’d like to admit when I was younger. Whether it was not getting the grades I wanted, not working hard, or lying about working when I wasn’t there, my parents had a strong belief in me from a young age.
Now, unlike my parents, when we sometimes visit our cousins in India, I have seen their parents verbally and physically abuse them for forgetting to do chores or for not being the youngest child. smarts are in a class of their own. I’m not saying my aunts and uncles are horrible people who are not good at raising children. I just said that their parenting style is a bit archaic and very inappropriate. After all, the most basic thing a parent can do is to love, encourage, support and guide their children to be the best they can be. Unfortunately, this is not a known concept in India.

I was amazed at the complete and utter difference between my parents and my nephew’s parents. My aunts and uncles were strict and impatient, my parents were kind and understanding. And in that moment, I really realized how proud I am. After that year, I really pulled myself together and really started working in school. Not only would I do the homework assigned by my teacher, but I would also complete extra credit problems and stay ahead of the class which was very impressive for a 5th grader. Before I knew it, I had rediscovered my passion for learning and was hungry for more. I came to school every day to learn and every day I went to school completely satisfied.
Throughout my life, I’ve learned to be happy and see things positively because that’s how I was raised. I am passionate, hardworking, ambitious and above all I have a family. My family loves to have fun, laugh and live life to the fullest. Besides, my father has a positive attitude and always wants to make others laugh. And my mom has advice that I can apply in every aspect of my life. The values my parents instilled in me helped me in more ways than one. I have incorporated these values into all aspects of my life and they have allowed me to grow as a person. My parents never limited my ambitions, but encouraged me to aim high and achieve the greatest achievements in my life. It is with their help that my philosophy of life depends on my work. And for that I will always be grateful to them.
