Softball Score Sheet Template – Paul Smith created a nice baseball and softball scorecard designed for announcers, but also great for P. A. announcers. We’ve had a chance to look at it and break it down for you to help you integrate it into your system.
The scorecard has been added to the documentation section, but you can also download it here: Paul Smith Baseball Softball Scorecard (PDF)

Size: 11 x 17, horizontal. Paul printed this on card stock. He (and we) recommend two sides so you can close them too if you want. If you move to one side, you can still use the back of the screen for additional notes.

Layout: 9 positions, with storage space for statistical information. While averages are not essential for P.A announcers, home runs are, as some indicate the number of home runs a player has hit in the season following the home run. This provides a good pillar for it. You can also track other stats if needed as players strive to reach milestones.
Remains: 12, since most games that extend the old rules do not exceed 3, this is a good number.
Substitutions: Maximum of two per position. This should be minimal, as those announcing Little League or high school baseball or softball at any level will have temporary substitutes such as special runners, re-entrants or honor runners. This allows you to keep track of those subs and also leaves room for future substitutions in the game.
Pitcher: 7 should be enough for 99% of baseball games. For softball, it’s doubtful you’ll ever hit that number in a game.

Note: In addition to date/time, location, and weather, there are lines for winning pitchers, losers, saves, next game, game time, and attendance. Everything the announcers have to announce at the end of the game.
Defensive Alignment: Yes, track the number of players on the other team, including plenty of room for wide receivers.
Fill in the information in the upper left corner of the page. Enter date/time, game site (city, country) and stadium name. You can also add the weather, some announcers like to announce the weather during the game, this would be a good place to save it.
Before the game starts, you can also write when the next game will be, who is playing and what time the game starts. That way, you can refer to it during the game, or use it as part of your post-game recap.
What’s The Score?: The Basics Of Scorekeeping
As the game progresses, you can track winning pitchers, losing pitchers, and saves. Later in the game you get, you can fill this. Since you are going to have this on two pages, you can decide which page you want to record all of this information on. When the game is over, write the length of the game and if it is known and should be announced, provide it.
The first line is next. Write on the starting line with the number, name and position of each player on the starting line. You can also write the name of the team above the composition. If you prefer to use your real name, write it here as a nickname in the score line.
If you get replacements, you can write them down. Because pitchers and catchers can have literary runners, and these runners are usually the same throughout the game, you can write when they come in. That way, if they return in the same role, you’ll have their name and the ability to write another replacement for the player later in the game.
The last four columns are all optional, but some announcers like to announce how many home runs a player has hit after hitting a home run. You can fill this out here and have the information at your fingertips. You can also summarize the home versions in-game and provide information directly to you. Other stats can also be tracked if a player approaches a season, team or career milestone.

Pitcher’s Box allows you to track pitchers. The only thing we will add is a column for decisions that you can cross off when the game is in progress and the pitcher is not on the record. You can also indicate with W or L that the pitcher can be the winning or losing pitcher of the game. During the game, you can have one pitcher with an L and another with a W and L to show that they can be record holders.
Below the pitchers box is a score line that helps us keep track of the score throughout the game. This helps in situations where the scoreboard doesn’t work, but also helps keep track of the final score. You can enter team nicknames in this “Team” box to give it a more familiar feel or as a place to remind you of nicknames.
Final summaries are important to help you wrap things up at the end. This box is wide enough to keep track of innings and cumulative totals throughout the game. Remember, if you put this on the score line at the end of the game, you move the foul. So on the home side of the scorecard, you put the total number of fouls on the away side of the score line due to fouls against the defense, while everything is for the home team.
Some wonder if the defensive line works for the P.A. announcer. This is not for live action, but to check the composition of the defensive team. That way, you have another team at the top of your page.

The best advice is to write the fielding team for the batting team at the bottom of the page. That way, you’ll have all the information right in front of you.
This will be along with the pitchers box for the opposing team’s hitting team. This way you can calculate all the stats together instead of having to flip the page multiple times. This is one of the things I really like about this scorecard. If the home team is hitting, you have the away team’s defense and balls on top of the board and vice versa on the opposite board.
As always, make the most of the scorecard. Don’t worry about doing it a certain way, if you want to keep a record, keep a record. The beauty of a scorecard is that most people can decipher it, but you can keep whatever you want and it still makes sense if someone needs to look at your scorecard again. User data remains secure. Please update to the latest version.
